Eruption Athletics provides health and wellness services to individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. EA offers their adaptive Group exercise classes (Grow with the Flow), at the Ultimate Dance Complex.
EA creates a safe, comfortable environment in which participants learn to grow socially as well as physically. The program helps develop strength, flexibility, endurance, and body control, while also furthering cognitive skills (ability to focus and attention span), and self-awareness.
EA helps to combat obesity, and other secondary conditions, by creating a specific adaptive exercise program made just for them.
EA has been improving the fitness and lives of individuals for almost ten years now in the South hills and greater Pittsburgh area. With the use of their patented Volcano PADD ®, a piece of adaptive equipment created specifically to cater to the needs of the IDD population, they have found a way to make the world of exercise accessible and fun.
Eruption Athletics began as a pilot program in 2009 in McMurray, with six clients and has grown steadily in popularity and recognition. EA has been spotlighted by WTAE Channel 4 news, written up in The Almanac and Observer Reporter newspapers, featured by Peters Patch and In Community magazines, and Partnered with Special Olympics, Achieva, and The ARC.
EA has also proven to be a beneficial opportunity for High School and College student volunteers to gain hands on experience working with this special population under qualified and experienced guidance.
Eruption Athletics has gained the accolades of special needs families, educators, and medical professionals with their unique attitude, approach, and results. EA has also made strong relationships with like-minded businesses in the area which are also trying to make our, “mentally challenged physically able and our physically challenged mentally strong.”
